Mix Aged Group
Watch and Learn
Toddlers learn by watching others and by playing and experimenting. Just imagine how much they could learn in a music class where children from birth to age 5 are all participating at their own levels—singing, moving, listening, observing, and exploring musical instruments in a welcoming and supportive environment. Our Mixed-age Class is just right for your toddler. And here's why.
Mixed Ages: Variety Is the Spice of Your Child’s Life!
Child development researchers have found that grouping together children of varying ages fosters natural, family-style learning. Children—even babies!—are inspired and stimulated through interaction with peers of different ages: younger children watch and imitate older ones, older children lead younger ones, and adults are happy because their children are in class together. Your baby will engage at their own level, vocalizing, moving, listening, observing, and exploring musical instruments. And any or all of your child's caregivers—parents, grandparents, nannies—can come share in the experience, both in class and at home. The whole family is welcome!
Babies Class - from 0 to 8 months
Musical experiences for you and your baby
Bouncing your baby to the beat of your favorite song, humming the tunes you remember from your childhood: music is so much fun for you and your new baby. And for your son or daughter, it’s more than just a good time - it also supports his development. Babies are alert to the sounds of music and speech as soon as they are born, and musical interactions with their primary caregivers help them to easily learn the music of their culture and grow into confident music-makers.
The Music Together® Babies Class will start your child on the path to a lifetime of musical enjoyment. Specifically designed for infants eight months and younger, this one-semester introduction to Music Together allows babies to embrace, enjoy, and express their inborn musicality. In your weekly class, you will spend forty-five delightful minutes singing, dancing, and playing with your child, all in the company of other new parents and guided by an early childhood music specialist. You’ll learn how your child is developing musically and leave with lots of ideas on how to play and bond musically at home.
Big Kids classes
Big Kids. They have minds of their own and they know what they like. They are ready to take ownership and lead musical activities with their peers. They want to dig deeper and understand how music works. That's what these classes are all about.
Music Together Big Kids® is a 60-minute class geared to the interests and abilities of 5-, 6-, and 7-year-olds. The program blends the elements of Music Together that parents and children love with new activities, skills, and challenges that are developmentally appropriate for this age group. These classes lay the foundation for Basic Music Literacy, complementing in-school music instruction or instrument lessons and leading to a lifetime of joyful music-making. The curriculum includes solfège, solos and ensembles, folk dances, harmony singing, vocal development, and drumming. In a safe and fun environment, your child can experiment with new activities like game songs, story songs, conducting, improvisation, and composition.
Like the idea of joining in on the fun? As a parent, your attendance is welcome but not mandatory. You'll receive our Big Kids songbook, CD, solfège cards, and HomePlay activities, so that your entire family can continue the fun and learning at home—and you can stay connected to what your child is learning in class.
Guitar Class for Grownups
The class is open to parents and caregivers of children registered in a current Music Together semester. If you would like to learn to play guitar using Music Together songs as the vehicle, this is the class for you!
Participants will learn basic strums and chords for more than a dozen songs from the current Music Together song collection. This class is good for beginners who have never held a guitar, and good for people who know a little guitar. It's great for people who already play some Music Together songs!
All participants build technique and musicianship in an organic, relaxed way while learning new ways to explore Music Together songs with their child at home and on the road. Plus, it's an enjoyable night out with other parents of small children.
Course materials: You will need a guitar, guitar capo, 3-ring binder and a guitar tuner or pitch pipe.
Consider taking the class even if you've never played an instrument.
It's a great way to continue the music-making at home, and you could be a guitar hero to your child!
